2008 Mercer County Conservation Poster Contest Winners

The Mercer County Soil Conservation District is pleased to announce the winners of the 2008 NJ Conservation Poster Contest for Mercer County. This year's theme was "Water is Life." Students were asked to create a poster describing the importance of water conservation at home, in their schools, or in the community. The winners of this contest are listed below. The first place entries were forwarded on to the state level competition.

2nd to 3rd Grade
First Place: Kasper Kasabach, 2nd grade, homeschool Trenton

4th to 6th Grade
First Place: Mimi Fang, 6th grade, Thomas Grover Middle School, West Windsor
Second Place: Kyla Chasalow, 4th grade, Princeton Junior School

7th to 9th Grade
First Place: Isaac Howell, 9th grade, Princeton High School
* Second Place: Alicia Feng, 8th grade, Community Middle School, West Windsor

10th to 12th Grade
First Place: Alan Fang, 10th grade, West Windsor-Plainsboro HS South
Second Place: Dorothy Shu, 11th grade, Princeton High School

* Update from last year's poster contest... Alicia Feng's first place entry in the 2007 Mercer County contest was forwarded to the state-level competition, where she won First Place in her grade category and "State Grand Champion" among all grade categories. Her entry was then forwarded to the National Poster Contest were she again earned First Place! Alicia was recognized for her accomplishment at the 2008 Conservation Awards Ceremony in Trenton. Congratulations to all our winners!

The statewide NJ Conservation Poster Contest is sponsored by the NJ Conservation Partnership, which includes the NJ Association of Conservation Districts, the NJ Department of Agriculture - State Soil Conservation Committee, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension. The Partnership's mission is to provide leadership and administer programs to help people conserve, improve, and sustain natural resources and the environment.

Alicia was also selected as the "State Grand Champion" for New Jersey and she won First Place in the National Competition.
